Nine Nightmare Bosses (by Kate Lorenz, CareerBuilder.co.uk editor) http://www.thegoodbosscompany.com/what_oth...mare_bosses.asp
Research conducted by Lloyds TSB and Working Families, to find the UK's Best Boss, found most of the working women in the UK believe having a good relationship with their boss is more important than pay and benefits.
Although two-thirds of employees told CareerBuilder they're satisfied with who they report to, the remaining third is dissatisfied with their bosses. Today's employees are voicing concerns with their boss's ability to lead, with 42 per cent claiming they could do the job better. In a survey by Marie Claire magazine, half the women questioned said they regularly had to cancel family and social engagements because of late working hours and felt their job had put a strain on personal relationships.
Unfortunately, many of us can recount tales about bosses who've been far from ideal. Bosses may be as laughable as Ricky Gervais' David Brent in "The Office", or as devilish as Meryl Streep's demanding Miranda Priestly in "The Devil Wears Prada", but would you go to the extreme of sending a live venomous spider in a package to your manager? That's exactly what a disgruntled Marks & Spencer employee did on his last day at work.
If you're suffering working for a boss from hell, be comforted by the fact that you are not alone. Just as there is a myriad of nightmare bosses, there are many ways to deal with their office terrors.
The Control Freak micromanages every move you make.
What you should do: Bombard this person with e-mails, reports and meetings. This might overwhelm him/her and do away with the controlling behaviour.
The Chum tries to solicit personal information and seeks inclusion as though you are the best of friends. What you should do: Include this person but keep your distance. Invent a fictional hobby, extend invitations you know they can't accept, and avoid hugs.
The Workaholic has sacrificed their life for the job and expects the same from you.
What you should do: Let this person know there is life outside of work. Discuss family, friends and hobbies at every opportunity.
The Teller of Bad Jokes always has one for you and it's always bad.
What you should do: Be prepared for the painful punch line and feign amusement. Then change the subject -- quickly.
The Supreme Delegator takes all of the credit and none of the blame and essentially is setting up others to take the fall. What you should do: In writing, advise on all key decisions and plans, but be prepared for a denial of knowledge if anything goes wrong.
The Yes/No Manager couldn't care less about useful information or discussions and simply wants every decision boiled down to ‘yes' or ‘no'.
What you should do: Present summaries with several alternatives for action. If asked for a recommendation, give it verbally.
The Passive-Aggressive Boss procrastinates, complains about not enough time, and then blames others for the bad job.
What you should do: Involve others in projects as much as necessary so that you have witnesses.
The Indecision Maker needs info from many different sources before making any sort of ‘independent' decision. What you should do: Present any question as if you've taken a survey of any key employees who might have a stake in the problem.
The All-Business-is-Personal Manager can't separate business and personal life.
What you should do: Make your work time enjoyable: one bad incident could ruin your work relationship.
In the long run, though, your nightmare could turn into a sweet dream. That toxic manager could be the motivating factor for you to make a change for the better; why not start by checking out who are Britain's best bosses to work for at www.workingfamilies.org.uk?

About my bosses.

Without a doubt this article is very interesting and instructive for me. I strongly believe that many people are suffering from a nightmare boss in our country. This advises can help many employees to avoid big problems at their job. They will know what to do in such a situation.
Fortunately, I don’t work with the nightmare bosses. To tell the truth I respect and admire my bosses. I have two bosses. The first boss is a woman. Her name is Svetlana. She is a workaholic, but she hasn’t sacrificed her life for the job and doesn’t expect the same from me. Sometimes my boss behaves the yes/no manager from the article, but it like happens very seldom (rarely). She is a kind, beautiful, fair, clever, attentive, skilled and diligent manager.
My second boss is a man. He is opposite to Svetlana. His name is Alexander. In my opinion his type the supreme delegator. He is strict and commanding for every employee. When he speaks his loud, aggressive and powerful voice everybody is afraid of him. My boss thinks that people must be afraid of him. In my first working month he was checking out me every day, he forced me to do many strange and difficult tasks. He is very attentive and tries to solicit more personal information. To my mind if you deal with such a boss you must always control your behavior. Sometimes I dream of sending a life venomous spider in a package to my boss. It is a joke. On the one hand my boss has taught me labour discipline and I can be more confident in myself. Вut on the other hand I can lose my individuality. I must admit it takes a lot of responsibly to lead people.

The Nightmare Boss
“Nightmare bosses” can take on many forms, but 6 major categories come to mind: the Demanding Boss, the Bully Boss, and the Disorganized Boss, the Clueless Boss, the Know-It-All Boss, and the Poor-Communicator Boss. I’m sure there are others and often several of these traits can be found in your boss. A bad boss can have advantages if you use the situation as an opportunity rather than as a problem.
A demanding boss may ask for more than you can deliver, but if you use the opportunity, then you can allow your boss to be the rough surface upon which you sharpen your skills. You don’t have to like your boss. Keep in mind that it is business, not personal, and always ask yourself “how can I use this situation to my advantage?”
The thing to remember is this, no matter how bad your boss is, in the end it doesn’t matter. What matters is what you do about it. This guide will describe the tactics you can employ to come out on top no matter what your boss is doing.
Assumptions
These tactics are to be used when there are current benefits that coincide with working for this bad boss. Maybe your bad boss has connections that you are hoping to leverage at some point or perhaps the branch office you work in gives you good exposure to higher level executives. I’m assuming that you can see potential growth with your company and that working for this current bad boss is merely a stepping stone along your path that just happens to be a little more tricky to deal with. However, if there is no future with this company or if the cons outweigh the pros of the situation, then please move directly to Step #9 “Unbearable Situations” where I explain the next steps to take.
What to Do When You Have a Bad BossIn order to thrive under a bad boss you will need to come to work ready to play your best game everyday. Remember, this will serve your career, so don’t resent it, relish it!
1. Be Organized
Let your boss’s disorganization be an inspiration for you to be your most organized. This is the foundation on which to build your whole career. This will allow you to deliver on all the other steps that follow. Have a system for managing your time, tasks, and projects. The more organized you are, the more productive you will be and the faster you will reach your career goals.
2. Deliver Results in Writing
This is important for pretty much all boss types. If you’ve notified your boss in writing, particularly via email, you have an e-trail to prove you finished assigned tasks on time.
3. Write Your Own Quarterly Reviews
Make it easy for your boss to write a good quarterly review of you. Have one place where you file all your accomplishments for the quarter, such as an email folder or Word document. Nothing is too small to log. When it comes time for quarterly reviews you can then easily type up your self-assessment with a list of your accomplishments. Be proactive and use the format that your boss prefers. Your boss can then use that for writing your review.
4. Present Your Daily/Weekly Plan to Your Boss in Writing
This is helpful for bosses who demand more than you can physically deliver. When you plan your day and your week, send a quick listing of how you will be spending your time. Be sure to prioritize it according to what your boss thinks is most important. When your boss gives you more assignments than you can handle, you can go to your boss with your daily/weekly plan that you already sent to him/her and ask your boss which items they want you to let slide.
Always put that decision back on your boss (and confirm it in a quick email for that e-trail,) so that they can’t yell at you for letting something slide. If they say “put in more hours,” then you need to decide for yourself how many hours per week is acceptable. If you are continually asked to work beyond what is acceptable to you, then you may want to move onto Step #9 Unbearable Situations.
5. Make Your Boss Look Good
Resist the urge for sabotage because it rarely works and often backfires in your face. When you are working to make your boss look good, even bad bosses are going to notice this. When you make your boss look good, their boss will hopefully notice. But don’t wait for your boss to give you credit. Claim the credit, toot your horn. I saw too many good workers get buried under feelings of self-pity because they weren’t getting noticed. You must speak up and let your boss, your boss’s boss, and your peers know about your accomplishments.
YOU are in charge of getting yourself ahead in your career. Of course you should do this in a humble manner and give plenty of praise for your boss and anyone else who aided you. When your boss looks good, you look good, as long as you speak up. If your boss aggressively campaigns to make you look bad or steal 100% credit, and this is a pattern, then you may have an Unbearable Situation. If so, skip ahead to #9.
6. Don’t Argue But Do Stand Your Ground
If your boss attacks you, remain calm. Do not take the bait. This takes a zen-like state of mind, but it can be done. I know because I’ve had to do it. Control your emotions for the moment. Imagine that you have a forcefield around you which can not be penetrated by verbal attack. I know this may sound kooky, but it will help your mental strength.
How should you respond? Matter-of-factly. Answer the “charges” with the facts and your understanding of what was expected of you. Explain that you did not know of the new expectations, but that you now understand how your boss wants things done going forward. Remain confident, strong, non-aggressive, and business-like. Ask if there is anything else and then go back to work. At the next opportunity, take a break outside to phone a friend to let off steam. Try not to do that at work. The risk is too great that your boss will overhear.
If the attacks are beyond what you think are acceptable, such as derogatory name calling or simply your own decision that the potential rewards are not worth working with such a difficult person, then move onto Step #9.
7. Manage Your Boss
This is all about being proactive. Don’t wait for your boss to give you his or her expectations of you. Request a meeting to set these goals. If such meeting is continually postponed by your boss then put together your best estimate of what you think your goals should be. Put them in writing and ask for your boss to give his or her feedback.
Always be thinking two steps ahead of your boss. Try to anticipate what your boss will want in any given situation. If you’re sure then deliver it before your boss can even ask you. For things you’re not sure about, ask, and if you are right then go ahead and deliver on that. For example, your company just came out with a new promotion for clients. You know that your boss likes functions to launch promotions. Go ahead and ask your boss if he/she would like you to spearhead putting together a function.
Make things easy for your boss and hopefully they will make some things easy for you. If your boss does not help you in any way, then consider moving on to Step #9.
8. Ask For What You Want
Make sure you always know where it is you want to go with your career. Don’t expect to just be “promoted” for good work. Because the question is “promoted to where?” You must know first where you want to go next. Then you must communicate this to your boss. You must do it often, kind of like your own marketing campaign with your boss as your target audience. If possible you should find a way to let your boss’s boss know too, without being seen as “going over your boss’s head.”
You should put it in writing with a step by step plan of how your intend to get there, listing skills you plan to develop and how, and accomplishments you will seek to achieve and by when. Ask for feedback on your plan. And as always remember to summarize your meeting in a follow up email to your boss after the meeting. If your boss doesn’t reply, sent 1 additional polite reminder saying that you want to make sure that you are on the same page.
As you reach milestones along your path, document this with an email to your boss and file a copy in your “accomplishments” email folder. Promotions are not always completely within your boss’s sole control, so be somewhat understanding of this, but only to a degree. If you feel that you are not making progress on your larger career goals, then you may want to move on. See the next step.
9. Unbearable Situations
If you have exhausted all possible tactics and your boss is just too abusive, clueless or otherwise unacceptable and you feel it is hurting your career or slowing you down, you may want to consider moving on from this boss. How should you go about doing this? With the utmost professionalism. Never give in to the desire to tell off your boss because you have decided to leave. Your paths may cross again.
If you like the company, but can’t bear working for your current boss, you may want to do some research into a lateral move to a different manager. Depending on the situation you may need to use discretion when researching this at first or if you feel comfortable that your boss would be open to you moving on then be up front with them about it. Use whatever polite reason you want to state to your boss, and don’t be tempted into confiding in a new boss how bad your old boss was. Leave that for your friends and family. Always be professional at work and take the high ground. At work, stay focused on the future and moving forward.
If you don’t see a future with your current company, then you will want to embark on a job search. Obviously be discreet. And keep to the golden rule of job switching, “Don’t leave your current job until you have a new one lined up.” And you will want to have that in writing too. I’ve seen friends receive verbal offers of a job only to receive a callback saying “sorry we just had a hiring freeze implemented, we can’t take you on.” And when you do leave, make sure to do so on a positive note. Never burn any bridges, no matter how rickety they are.
Conclusion Hopefully by the end of this post you may view your situation with your difficult boss from a whole new perspective. Perhaps you will see that there is a silver
lining in having a “bad boss” as it forces you to up your career game, putting you ahead of the competition

The inflight Magazine of Malaysia Airlines, March, 2011
Healing Hands

To stay healthy physically, emotionally and spiritually, the Balinese turn to their trusted balians – faith healers whose skills can range from astrology to face reading and qi gong. Sam Yen meets the islands finest traditional doctors.
Mysticism runs deep in the veins of the Balinese. On their island, intricate flower offerings (canang) are placed daily on the doorsteps of homes and at shrines, paddy fields and road crossings, to appease the spirits. Status and objects infused with magical energy are wrapped in the ubiquitous black- and-white poleng cloth.
When trevelling down a lonely road at midnight, drivers honk when approaching a corner or a particularly dark stretch to seek permission to cross the territory belonging to the people of the night.
Nowhere is this spiritual approach to life more evident than in matters of health. Healing, in Bali, comes in many forms. One could visit a high priest to be blessed with holy water and mantras (holy words) via a melukat (purification) ceremony. Chewing and swallowing mutabilis leaves prescribed by a herbal healer is another option. Bathing in the sacred spring waters of the Pura Tirta Empul temple, especially of purnama (day of the full moon), is also said to be therapeutic. But the most sought after are the balians, the faith healers of Bali who make up the very heart of the islands spiritual web.

There are unofficially over eight thousand balians in Bali, spread across all corners of the island, from touristy Denpasar and Kuta to the remote and tiny villages that dot the rural east coast. There is, however, a particular concentration of them in the Ubud area – this arts and culture hotspot is also a centre for medicinal knowledge. Possibly two of the most famous balians in Bali can be found in Ubud – Ketut Liyer in the centre of town and Cokorda Rai in banjar Singapadu Tengah, one of the many villages on its outskirts.
Ketut Liyer is now world-famous: He was Elizabeth Gilberts divine guide, as chronicled in her best-selling book Eat, Pray, Love (she was played by Julia Roberts in the movie adaptation, which also featured the medicine man). Unlike some of the more “local” balians, finding Ketut Liyers abode is fairly easy as signs on roadsides lead up to the residential compound where he receives visitors. Given his popularity, a queue system has been put in place.
There are said to be three different types of balians, and Ketut Liyer is a balian dasaran (one who fortells). He starts work at 8am and receives a maximum of 40 visitors each day, with numbered tags indicating the order of consultation. While waiting for their turn, visitors lounge around the compound, admiring the intricate architecture and eavesdrop on Ketut Liyers effusive predictions of the past, present and future by reading his clients hands, face and ears, as well as lontars (Balinese anthology scripted on the leaves of the lontar palm). Be warned though – there are no “private” sessions, so be prepared for your fate to be heard by all.

Cokorda Rai, a direct descendent of Ubuds royal family, is a balian usada, one who heals. He works his magic through a mélange of Reiki, qi gong, tai chi, acupuncture and East Asian massages, blended with indigenous Balinese techniques. All are applied judiciously after careful assessment of his patients energy balance and symptoms surmised from an examination of their feet.
The third type of balian is the balian taksu, who is said to have spiritual powers. Pekuk Dalang, who lives in the Ubud banjar of Payangan, invokes the help of spirits to alleviate sickness and domestic troubles by falling into a kasurupan (trance). Also a skilled musician and a fantastic wayang kulit player, Pekak Dalangs gift runs in the family, his son, Sutaja, is also a balian who treats ailments by “unblocking” the stunted flow of blood through manipulation of the toes. The process can be incredibly painful, but the ache amazingly disappears after a while, signaling that the blockage has been cleared. Sutaja is also a balian terang – one who specializes in weather manipulation.
In the banjar of SindSome u Sayan, also in Ubud, Made Kontenshi is another balian taksu. He summons his spiritual guides to pinpoint areas of the body which have been affected by negative energy. This healer receives guests in a compound surrounded by his artwork – a mixture of oil and sand on canvas – and his treatment consists of magical energy transfers and vigorous massages. (Medicine men of this sort are know as balian apun, while those who deduce are called balian tenung. Balian tulang, or bone setters, also fall under the category of balian taksu – all, however, share a spiritual element to their work).
Balians are not exclusively male: There are women faith healers but not as many in numbers. Some of the more celebrated female balians in Bali include Ibu Djiro from the district of Bangli who specializes in providing solutions for problems while in a trance. Ibu Jero Nesa in Sanur summons ancestors to give guidance or locate missing objects. These women, like most female healers, are balian dasaran, and many also act as balian manak (midwives) to receive and bless newborns.
Natural gift
The black-and-white motif of the poleng cloth is more than just a pattern. It indicates the central tenet of Balinese beliefs - that the world is dualistic in nature, a river of ever-shifting opposites. The heroic Barong dragon and the demonic. Rangda, featured in the traditional Barong dance, also symbolize opposites, as well as the concept of sekala niskala (the visible and invisible world) inhabited by humans and spirits, who can be good or evil.
The same concept applies to balians. There is an adat kanan (right path), which focuses on the good, the pure and healing. To balance that, there are those that follow the adat kiri (left path) which flirts with ill-intent and black magic. This brings into play the role of balians: Many illnesses can be treated in conventional hospitals, but “magical ailments” cast by a practitioner of adat kiri require the assistance of a balian and the adat kanan to dispel.
It is believed that the knowledge and skills that come with being a balian cannot be taught. Balians are chosen, not made. The power of a balian is also blind to the caste system, a fundamental aspect of life in Bali. The skills of a balian are, it is said, bequeathed by a higher power, compelling the receiver to share the gift. And it can come suddenly.
Pak Bejuk, a balian usada in banjar Kedewatan, Ubud, was a construction worker before he healing with his hands. Jeru Made Gede Aryada Putra, a balian taksu in Desa Abuan, Bangli, was six years old when he suddenly began to diagnose his father’s patients by sight alone. Wayyan Sintang, a balian taksu specializing in broken bones, fell off a coconut tree at 18 and fixed his left leg himself.
The power can, however, be inherited or passed on. Pekak Dalang and his son Sultaja are an example of a balian family. Ketut Liyer is a ninth generation balian, but with his popularity, his son instead concentrates on managing his father’s throngs of visitors.
Island life
The wise and knowledgeable balians of Bali are a microcosm of the mysticism and intrigue that define life on the island. Whether they are healing, blessing or educating their numerous visitors, the balians are a revelation and should be part of any authentic experience of an island that is much more than what it appears to be.

=Pekak Dalang offering prayers before s healing session, Made Kontenshi summons spiritual guides to clear energy blockages in the body, offerings made at the temples typically consist of food items and incense sticks, (facing page)devotees praying at a shrine.
• Balian appropriately: Cover your arms and knees, wearing a sarong is advisable,
• A balian never turns away anyone in need. Be prepared to wait, as there may be a long line of locals to treat,
• Bring a local guide, not just for transport but for translation. Some balians speak English (Ketut Liyer, Cocorda Rai, Made Kontenshi) but others don’t. Some are only fluent in the Balinese dialect (Pekak Dalang) so a local guide is essential. In Balinese, napi orti maens ‘hello’, and martu suksuma means ‘thank you very much’
• Balians do not accept direct payment. Rather, they accept offerings dedicated to the spirits. Payment, starting from a minimum of about USD11 to as much as deemed worthy, should be tucked discretely in a canang offering, supplied by hotels or bought at the market.

Subject: Bill Gates' High School Speech..good one
Bill Gates recently gave a speech at a high school about 11 things they did not and will not learn in school. He talks about how feel-good, politically correct teachings created a generation of kids with no concept of reality and how this concept sets them up for failure in the real world.

Rule 1: Life is not fair - get used to it!

Rule 2: The world won't care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.

Rule 3: You will NOT make $60,000 a year right out of high school. You won't be a vice president with a car phone until you earn both.

Rule 4: If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss.

Rule 5: Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your grandparents had a different word for burger flipping: they called it opportunity.

Rule 6: If you mess up, it's not your parents' fault; so don't whine about your mistakes, learn from them.

Rule 7: Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you thought you were. So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parent's generation, try delousing the closet in your own room.

Rule 8: Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life HAS NOT. In some schools, they have abolished failing grades and they'll give you as MANY TIMES as you want to get the right answer. This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.

Rule 9: Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you "FIND YOURSELF". Do that on your own time.

Rule 10: Television and video games are NOT real life. In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs.

Rule 11: Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one.

http://www.star-magazine.co.uk/news/view/28961/Fergie/

The Black Eyed Peas singer, 36, talks about how she stays in shape…

Hi Fergie, you look great! How do you stay away from junk food?
“I’m not going to lie, there are times when I play tricks on myself, like pretending that French fries are poison.”

What do you have for breakfast?
“My favourite is a bagel with cottage cheese and tomatoes. I heat it up so the cheese melts like a pizza.”

What’s always in your fridge?
“Hummus, iced tea, orange juice, soya milk and Diet Designs. The Diet Designs delivery meals really help me stick to healthy eating, and I see results immediately.”

Do you have a strict diet then?
“I eat low-fat and low-carb, but I can’t cut carbs out completely as I like them too much!”

How do you keep your sweet tooth under control?
“I let myself have just one bite of dessert, but I look like a freak when I’m eating it, like when I did the commercials, savouring every morsel.”

Do you have any diet tips?
“I do vinegar shots, and also drink tablespoons of unfiltered, organic cider. For some reason, I’ve noticed a difference in my stomach.”

You’ve got killer abs – is exercise important to you?
“Working out is really the top thing in my life that I do for self-esteem and self-worth. When I’m exercising, I get really proud of myself because I know I’m doing everything in my power to be healthy. I try to work out with my personal trainer for an hour, four times a week – we concentrate on weights and running. On the road, I do DVD workouts in my hotel room.”

Royal wedding: William greets fans ahead of wedding

28 April 2011 Last updated at 22:14 GMT Share this pageEmail Print Share this page

Prince William has gone on an impromptu walkabout ahead of his wedding to Kate Middleton to meet royal watchers gathered near Buckingham Palace.

He spent several minutes shaking hands, chatting and posing for pictures telling the well-wishers: "All I've got to do is get the lines right."

The couple say they have been "incredibly moved" by public reaction.

In a message in their official wedding programme they thanked "everyone most sincerely for their kindness".

During Friday's Westminster Abbey ceremony Miss Middleton will vow to "love, comfort, honour and keep" Prince William but will not vow to obey him.

The service will be the epitome of "Britishness", St James's Palace said.

VisitBritain has predicted more than 600,000 people will be on the streets to watch Friday's events and several hundred are already camping out in tents and sleeping bags outside the abbey and in The Mall.

'All ready'

Prince William, who is spending the evening with the Prince of Wales, Duchess of Cornwall and Prince Harry, emerged from his London home Clarence House to walk to The Mall at about 2030 BST.

Some of the the crowd were spending the night on the street and the prince asked them about their preparations.

Earlier, the Duchess of Cornwall also met some of the fans in The Mall.

She described Prince William and Miss Middleton as being "all ready" for their big day and said the Royal Family were "very excited".

Meanwhile, the Foreign Office says the invitation for the Syrian ambassador in London has been withdrawn following reports that up to 400 pro-democracy protesters have been killed in Syria by security forces in recent weeks.

A Foreign Office statement said: "Buckingham Palace shares the view of the Foreign Office that it is not considered appropriate for the Syrian ambassador to attend the wedding."

Earlier on Thursday Miss Middleton took part in her last rehearsal at Westminster Abbey, with best man Prince Harry, the bridesmaids and pageboys.

Miss Middleton and her family are gathering at the Goring Hotel in Belgravia.

She arrived at the hotel at about 1745 BST accompanied by her mother and sister and stood outside for a short while as photographers took pictures.

Some 50 foreign heads of state are among the 1,900 invited guests attending the wedding.

Meanwhile the Queen has hosted an event for British and foreign royals at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, near Hyde Park, in central London.

British royals including the Duke of York, the Princess Royal and the Earl and Countess of Wessex attended, as well as princesses Beatrice and Eugenie.

Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, Lord Freddie Windsor and Lady Gabriella, and Zara Phillips and fiancee Mike Tindall were also there.

Other royal guests included Prince Pavlos of Greece and Princess Marie-Chantal, Queen Sofia of Spain, Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia of Spain.

Queen Margarethe of Denmark, Crown Prince Alexander of Serbia and Princess Katherine, the Grand Duke and Duchess of Luxembourg, King Harald of Norway and Queen Sonia also attended.

It has emerged that the Queen will leave for a weekend away after hosting the wedding day lunchtime reception, giving over Buckingham Palace for William and Kate's black tie party in the evening.

It means the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh will miss Prince Harry's best man's speech and Michael Middleton's father-of-the-bride address.

Music choices

In their official wedding programme released on Thursday, the royal couple's message reads: "We are both so delighted that you are able to join us in celebrating what we hope will be one of the happiest days of our lives.

"The affection shown to us by so many people during our engagement has been incredibly moving, and has touched us both deeply.

The wedding ceremony will be the epitome of "Britishness", St James's Palace says "We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone most sincerely for their kindness."

Details of the order of service were also released.

The bride will walk up the aisle to coronation anthem I Was Glad, by Sir Charles Hubert Hastings Parry, from Psalm 122.

It was composed for the crowning of Prince William's great-great-great grandfather, Edward VII, at Westminster Abbey in 1902.

The couple have chosen to use the Series One (1966) Book of Common Prayer ceremony.

Classical compositions by Elgar, Britten and Vaughan Williams will feature during the ceremony, alongside the hymn Jerusalem and the English melody Greensleeves.

St James's Palace said many of the "stunning" pieces were chosen by the royal couple for their "theatre".

The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry, Miss Middleton's parents - Carole and Michael Middleton - her sister Pippa and her brother James will all act as witnesses and sign the marriage registers.

James Middleton will also give The Lesson, reading Romans 12: 1-2, 9-18.

The souvenir wedding programme is available to download free as a PDF from the official Royal Wedding website.

The booklet will be sold for £2 a copy along the processional route, with proceeds going to the Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry.

World awaits royal wedding
Train companies have warned 400,000 people are expected to travel by train into central London on Friday - a 15% rise in passengers compared with a normal public holiday - but say they will be able to cope.

It is anticipated the events will be watched by millions of people worldwide on television.

Thousands of journalists have descended on London and makeshift studios are outside Buckingham Palace and along the wedding route.

Scotland Yard has indicated it would take pre-emptive action to stop people causing trouble and said it "brought forward" three raids on premises in the capital, believed to be occupied by squatters, because of the wedding.

But Labour backbencher John McDonnell raised a point of order in the Commons describing the action - which the Metropolitan Police said was not "specifically related" to the wedding - as "disproportionate".

The Met Office says Friday will start off dry but cloudy in London. It will become brighter through the morning, with some sunny spells, but there is a 30% risk of showers about noon when Prince William and his bride are expected to emerge from Westminster Abbey after the wedding.

Forecasters also say there is a risk of heavy showers developing later on. Temperatures in the capital are expected to reach a high of 19C (66F) in the afternoon.

A young man said to the abbot of a monastery:

‘I would really like to become a monk, but I have learned nothing of importance in my life. My father only taught me how to play chess, and I was told that all games are sinful.’

The abbot called for a chessboard and summoned a monk to play with the young man. However, before the game began, he added:

‘We also need diversion, but we will have only the best players here. If our monk loses, he will leave the monastery, thus creating an opening for you.’

The abbot was deadly serious.
The young man played an aggressive game, but then he noticed the saintly look in the monk’s eyes, and from then on, he began to play deliberately badly.
He decided that he would rather lose because he felt that the monk could prove far more useful to the world than him.

Suddenly, the abbot overturned the chessboard onto the floor.

‘You learned far more than you were taught,’ he said. ‘You have the powers of concentration necessary to win and you are capable of fighting for what you want, but you also have compassion and the ability to sacrifice yourself for a noble cause.

‘ You have shown yourself capable of balancing discipline and mercy; welcome to our monastery!’

10 SECOND READING: the one who cared most

The writer Leo Buscaglia was once invited to be on the jury of a school competition to find ‘the child who cared most for others’.

The winner was a boy whose neighbour, a gentleman of over eighty, had just been widowed.
When he saw the old man sitting in his garden crying, the boy jumped over the fence, sat on the man’s lap and stayed there for a long time.

When he went back home, his mother asked him what he had said to the poor man.

‘Nothing,’ said the boy. ‘He’s lost his wife and that must have really hurt.

“I just went over to help him to cry.”

The composition about my life summer.gif

Every cloud has a silver lining

Sometimes our life sends us negative situations. We often worry about our troubles. Indeed every problem has a positive decision. For example, my friend was fired from work. She was crying and regretted about her interesting work and colleagues. After that she made a CV (resume) and sent it to many companies. One big company invited her to a job interview. Without a doubt my friend was employed successfully. Her salary (wage) increased in doubled. And she spends only twelve minutes so get to work every day. I think it’s great. I’ am absolutely certain that this situation was necessary for her to make her confident .
As to me in every bad situation I find something good. For example, if my director gave me a lot of work, I suppose that would be very useful for me because I could find out a lot of new things. Everybody must take advantages from negative situations.

My honeymoon trip

Wedding is the best day in my life. My husband and I were very happy on that day. Our friends and immediate family congratulated us on that happy day (event). After several weeks we went for honeymoon trip.
We were on two beautiful islands in the Mediterranean Sea. We and our friends visited Corsica - an island which belongs to France. It is a birthplace of famous Napoleon Bonaparte. I must admit that Corsica has very beautiful beaches with white sand and powerful mountains. We lived in a big villa. It was two-storeyed. There were three rooms, a big living room and a kitchen, a garage, a balcony and an attic. The living room was spacious, cosy and light. There were several sofas with throw pillows, several armchairs, one coffee table and a fireplace. The big table for ten people was situated in the kitchen. From the balcony we enjoyed a very beautiful view of the old town. We often had dinner on the balcony. My husband, I and our friend went to the sea every day. Sometimes we climbed the mountains. We had a great time on Corsica.
We spent one week there. I was carried away by Corsica.
After that we went to the neighboring island - Sardinia. There are 12 kilometers between Corsica and Sardinia. Sardinia belongs to Italy. It has very beautiful flora and fauna. The second villa was a little larger. There were five rooms, a living room with dining room, two balconies, a big garden and three bathrooms. But there wasn’t a dishwasher, an iron and a vacuum cleaner in the house. A lemon tree grew in the garden . Italian people are very friendly. The food In Sardinia is very tasty. We ate squids, shrimps, mussels and drank white wine in a restaurant. We didn’t have a kettle in the both villas. Because Italian and French people don’t drink tea. It was such a pity. I can’t imagine my life without tea.
To sum up my honeymoon trip I can say that both countries made deep impression on me. I will remember my honeymoon trip for all my life.

Never burn any bridges (behind)

Yes, that’s true, but in the circumstances when you didn’t want to break relations (relationships) with your boss and colleagues. I suppose that you should forgive your “bad” manager because it’s only business not personal. Sometimes our life brings surprises, for example, your new manager makes inquiries (наводить справки) about your last job. I think he/she isn’t glad if he/she finds out that you didn’t have good relationships with your last boss. I strongly believe that everyone deserves respect (заслужить уважение) without “ going over your boss head” and a public scandal. For this reason you never burn any bridges with your last bosses or colleagues.
But on the other hand if you have harmful (pernicious) habits (вредные привычки) you must burn all the bridges to them. If you decided to lose weight you must (should) go to a sport club three times a week and keep on a diet. Besides, you should remember that you burn bridges and you don’t eat sweets every day. It is really difficult. But if you have a goal to be slim and beautiful you must sacrifice your time and pleasure.
In conclusion I’d like to stress that you need to decide whether to burn any bridges or not.

Work-life balance

I think it is a very topical issue because every family in our country has typical problems. Unfortunately, many people don’t know how to keep balance between work and personal life (family). We often give all our forces to work and forget about our family. I maintain that all our life consists of daily routine (job, housework, shopping and etc.), sport or physical exercises, hobbies (photographing, dancing, singing, etc.), spiritual life, relaxation and free time for yourself. So, it’s quite logical to ask: where can I find time for all that?. I’ll try to answer the question. You must learn how to plan and manage your time. As to me I have a plan for every day (or week). It helps me to do many things. Sometimes I don’t go to the gym and have a rest at home. But it was happened very seldom. If people learn (manage) to keep balance between work and personal life their life will be more happy, positive, and healthy.
Nevertheless, when a young girl has a baby she must spend all her time for her little child. In Russia many womеn have very poor maternity leave benefit . Because they must work and have a bit time for her baby and husband. Many employers don’t hire young women because their little children often get ill and they don’t want to pay money to women that are regularly on a sick-leave . It is a very big problem. I think these problems must be solved by the government. But everybody must take personal responsibility for yourself. If you have a little child it is very difficult to keep balance between work and family. In this situation every woman can choose priority directions or try to find balance between work and home.
